I recently had the chance to talk to some entrepreneurs about what they look for in potential employees. Here I leave one the interviews I did to Josep Maria Escoda, a man that has taken the reins of a familiar business and has made what it is today a successful alimentary wholesale distribution chain.
Name: Josep Mª Escoda Tarragó
Employment:
Chief and manager
in Distribucions Escoda S.A.
What do you
look for in a new employee?
The capability
to realize a job, personal disposition in behalf of the business and the
development of required tasks.
What do you
focus in during an interview?
In the honesty
of the answers, not faking or decorating their reply. Basically the fact that
the person answers what he/she thinks I want to hear and not really saying what
he/she is thinking.
How
important is the Curriculum Vitae to you?
I give
significance to the fact that the person has worked in other companies active
in the same sector related to the job that we offer, and that the position in
which that person has developed his/hers functions successively can become
improvements in the workplace.
We also care
about the period of time that person has work in the same business. If he/she
jumps between jobs very often it’s not something we are attracted to.
How
important in the new employee’s attitude in the interview and in the job to
you?
The attitude
that we look for in a new employee in the interview is basically the honesty
and the burning desire to get the job. The attitude in the workplace has to
correspond to the attitude shown in the interview.
This is really interesting since it is one of the main problems we have here in spain: Find a job. A good curriculum vitae is the solution.
