This gnome is called Kern and this gnome is a real traveller.
It does so as representative of a single experiment, which has been called
"The gnome experiment". The aim is to show how, depending on the
location of the planet in which it is, its weight ranges. And how can we find
out? Quite simply, measuring it with the absolute accuracy of the scales produced
by the creators of this fun test, the company Kern & Sohn.
The Earth is not completely spherical. If so, and if
the density was uniform throughout the planet's gravity would be exactly the
same over the whole surface. But it is not a perfect sphere nor has a uniform
density. This means that depending on where we find ourselves, the weight will
vary and with their lab kit high precision they prove it.
Depending on where in the world you see and comparing
weights you can see that almost one gram of weight difference is reached. An
object at either pole, north or south, is technically closer to the centre of
the earth compared to the same object in the Ecuador. This equation should add
the difference of inertia caused by the rotation of the planet in terms of the
distance that we find of axis of rotation of this.

Really curious Paulina, in fact I think that I've seen this gnome too. Thank you for reminding me it.
